Sony has today announced the lineup of PS5, PS4 games PS Plus Essential members can look forward to playing for the month of November 2024. Available from next week on Tuesday, 5th November 2024, the three titles included are:
- Ghostwire: Tokyo (PS5) | Review
- Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged (PS5, PS4) | Review
- Death Note Killer Within (PS5, PS4)
The former PS5 console exclusive Ghostwire: Tokyo will be seen as the highlight for many PS Plus users, a title from Tango Gameworks. You play a ghost hunter, and in our Ghostwire Tokyo PS5 review, we awarded the experience a 6/10. "While its combat system is fun in bursts, it becomes repetitive far too quickly," we said. The open world is jam-packed with busywork, and the story doesn't go anywhere interesting either. Excellent PS5 DualSense controller support, haunting elements, and nice visuals aside, Ghostwire: Tokyo will have to go down as a miss."
You likely haven't heard of Death Note Killer Within before, and that's because it's a completely new game that's launching as part of PS Plus Essential. Here's the setup: "Death Note Killer Within is an online social deduction game for up to 10 players. Players will be split into two teams with different objectives. To win the game, players will need to figure out each other’s identities and either eliminate L who threatens Kira’s power or seize the Death Note. Enjoy a battle of wits as Kira and his followers, or as L and the investigators in the world of Death Note. As equally matched opponents, the two teams clash to control the game while hiding their true identities from each other. The Death Note is hidden among the players, leading to a thrilling game of cat and mouse until one team overpowers the other."
As for arcade racing game Hot Wheels Unleashed 2, it proved to be a great experience at release a year ago. "Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged is a highly polished, fast-paced, fun, and robust racing sequel that builds upon its predecessor in all the right ways," we concluded in an 8/10 verdict.

Nice. Will give all 3 of these a blast
This is the trailer for Death Note game
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Tvk8-KnMBns
Pretty much plays like Amogus
And Ghostwire looks interesting but the rest just...
Was just thinking earlier today that I needed a new racer to play and quite enjoyed the first one so will at least give the Hot Wheels a go. Hope it still has Knight Rider and the BTTF DeLorean!
Completed Ghostwire: Tokyo long time ago, no interest in two other titles. Poor month for me, but so many awesome games in backlog, so no problem.
Ghostwire Tokyo is awful. Walk around, blast some enemies, pick up collectibles. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. ....once you've played it for 20 minutes, you've pretty much played the whole game
Hot wheels 2 unleashed is a definite yes from me as I really enjoyed the first one. Didn't go much on ghostwire as I found it a bit bland. Looks nice though.
Not a good month for me. Ghostwire is not that good, and it's also free on Epic Store starting tomorrow. Hot wheels 1 didn't feel satisfying to me, so that's probably a no from me too.. oh well
FFS I bought Hot Wheels 2 from CEX a couple of weeks ago.
However had I not bought it I would have welcomed its inclusion on PS Essential so as far as I'm concerned its a decent month.
Loved Ghostwire: Tokyo when it was on Plus before, will likely go back in for the platinum. The first Hot Wheels Unleashed was great, have been tempted to bite on the second so glad I resisted.
I loved ghostwire, I'd maybe replay that but own it.
The 1st hot wheels was loads of fun so I'll give 2 a go.
Death note sounds intriguing but doubt I'll play it
Nothing for me personally as the only one of interest I've already played and that was GHOSTWIRE: Tokyo. Very good, solid and well-made game though for anyone on the fence about it.
Meh. Playing Ghostwire on Steam Deck, don’t really want to start over. Hot Wheels could be some fun.
Excellent month. Death Note game I'm not sure about, but happy to try it on PS Plus.
Almost bought Ghostwire many times over. And Hot Wheels is good arcade racing fun.
Fantastic stuff!
@springer17 @KingPev @LazyLombax Reading these bi-polar love/hate/love opinions back to back was hilarious.
We all like different things.
Good month for me.
Crap, I bought hot wheels 2 a couple months ago.
I really wish they'd post links to trailers for these games on YouTube or something instead of just linking to their reviews.
That explains why hot wheels 2 was available at such a discount recently! Glad I didn't pull the trigger
@ShaneReactions Makes sense to link to their own reviews surely?
Ill take hot Wheels 2. Enjoyed the first one.
Oh perfect, I was wanting to buy Ghostwire but it was just looked and sounded like a huge disappointment
I love Death Note(One of my favorite anime's of all time) but that game is definitely something. I'm just glad that anything Death Note related is coming out.
Ghostwire is ok even though it's been on Extra for months.
Hot Wheels I've seen nothing but good things about, even though I'm not a racing game fan I might have to give it a try.
Nothing of interest there. Online collaboration is always an immediate no, the racing game…maybe. Ghostwire did not appeal to me in the slightest other than the setting.
But I’m always most excited for the premium games anyway as there is always a VR game in there. Hoping for another I don’t have.
Pretty poor month. I'll take Ghostwire and see myself out.
@ShaneReactions Or you can just search for the trailers. Makes sense they’d link to their own reviews.
@TedLassoNikes Sure they can link to their reviews (which I do look at), but there's never any video of gameplay or any trailers typically. So I now have to go to YouTube and hope I'm finding the right trailers.
@dskatter I didn't say anything at all about them not posting links to their reviews. I suggested they add videos of gameplay or trailers in addition. Not removing their reviews altogether.
Hasn’t Ghostwire been on Essential before? Maybe I’m remembering wrong.
I have a ps4 so meh month for me i hope the death note game will be good though
@ShaneReactions My point is that you can search for trailers yourself very easily, and it’s in their own interest to post links to their reviews instead.
Ghostwire’s free on the Epic store too. Clearly just giving it away now.
@QwarktasticLombax you could trade it in toward the another game as long as you have ps+ you will have access to hot wheels
I’ll say it. Ghostwire is a brilliant game.
Never got around to playing Ghostwire when it was on Extra - now I'll have all the time in the world
@dskatter I'm not over here lighting torches and grabbing a mob to take down PushSquare. I simply stated that it would be a nice addition to see footage of a game or games they are talking about or reviewing...ya know, like other sites have done, without having to navigate the correct game trailer for a game I've never seen or heard of.
Solid month! I own Ghostwire Tokyo but haven’t played it yet. I need to check it out sometime soon.
Excellent selection.
Anyone saying otherwise doesn’t deserve to play games.
Issue with the Death Note game is it’s more fun with friends and I don’t have many
…wait that’s probably a me issue :’)))))
Jokes aside, very solid month!! Can finally pick back up where I was on Ghostwire
Played Ghostwire on Extra last year. I enjoyed it. No interest in the other 2.
Ghostwire was a 6/10 for me too, didn't bother finishing it physically, not going to give it a second chance.
The death note game doesn't interest me in the slightest.
So that leaves Hot Wheels. I like arcade racers so I will give it a go, that's the only thing of any interest to me here, 1 is better than none right!
That's a great month. Ghostwire is not great, but it isn't bad. It's worth a try. The first Hot Wheels Unleashed was a lot of fun, and I had no idea there was a sequel. That's a very pleasant surprise! A Death Note-style game like Among Us certainly has my attention, too. Nice!
Already bought hot wheels for the kids, ghostwire will go to the depths of my list of stuff to play and will probably only get touched if civilization as we know it collapses. Won't even be able to play death note by then as might not have internet
Its a ok.ghostwire tokyo always looks cool.word up son
Ghostwire Tokyo is brilliant, (9/10 for me) but I own the disc so I'll probably just add Hot Wheels to my library
Ohh I've been wanting to play the second Hot Wheels game for awhile now. Will absolutely be downloading this next week
I simply adore Ghostwire: Tokyo. It's far from perfect, as a shooter it's very basic, enemy variety is nonexistent and main story, as kids say, is nothingburger. But sidequests are great! Do you have a favourite urban legend or horror trope? It will be there.
I desperately wanted a sequel, something like Ghostwire Kyoto, which would keep the strong aspects and improve the weak, but first Microsoft happened, and then Hi-Fi Rush happened, which now everybody associates with the studio. (I found it boring as f-k). Oh well, maybe I'll just replay this game on hard.
I've almost bought Ghostwire and Hot wheels a couple of times but never pulled the trigger so definitely happy with this.
@ShaneReactions That's fair feedback, I agree! Leave it with me, may be more difficult to do for PS Plus Extra as that usually includes more games, but could be done here.
Loved Ghostwire Tokyo but never finished all the content before it left Plus so will for sure now
Rubbish month. Ghostwire was already on PS plus. Played it then and it was extra average. How about some new games that haven't been on ps plus before? That would be nice.
@springer17 Same, think I got a few of those 100 yokai parades to do. Plus they added a post game dungeon.
@get2sammyb Agreed. I definitely understand where there are times when a video cannot (or should not) be linked. But PushSquare obviously has no issues linking to videos when they do a State of Play and have a post with links to all the videos of the games that were announced.
@ShaneReactions Yep, I've added in trailers for all three games now! Thanks for the suggestion!
Might be nice to get some screenshots added too, but will look at how we can present that nicely for next time.
my kids will be happy for hot wheels
Great games this month, shame I own two of them 😆
Personally, I'm very happy with this month but I can see why many wouldn't be.
first hot wheels game i played and platinumed via ps+ and enjoyed for the most part so happy to play the second one and I missed both ghostwire and deathloop on ps+ extra due to not yet owning a ps5 before they were removed so I'm pleased with that offering. However I can certainly understand any criticism leveled at them for double dipping with services for that game. Its not a practice that should be done often as it basically punishes the most loyal customers.
The last game I read 'online social deduction game for up to 10 players." And instantly checked out. Have zero interest in that type of game even if it was the best example of that type of game ever and quite frankly i'm sick of ps+ giving us these online games that are invariably closed down not long after or go free to play.
I loved Ghostwire on PS Plus Extra, so while I have already played and Platinumed and 100%ed it, I am pleased to now add it to my library on a slightly more permanent basis. It's an acquired taste, but if it does fit your palate, it's a blast to play through.
However, the Platinum is a humongous grind and the 100% introduces a fair bit of difficulty plus RNG collectibles in its roguelite mode. Looking forward to seeing the average and Platinum rarity drop a few notches.
Ghostwire is ass, Hotwheels Unleashed 2 is a step back from the first game, but still a 9/10 arcade racer.
@Swoleguy You mean like... Hotwheels Unleashed 2 and Death Note?
@MrPeanutbutterz no I mean all of the games should be new. Too many times they put a game that's already been on ps plus.
@LowDefAl Just wasn’t sure is all.
I'd purposely held off buying Hot Wheels 2 in the hope it would come to PS plus one day and here we are.
The first one was really fun so hoping this one is just as good
@Swoleguy Only a fraction of the subscriber base has Extra/Premium, and Ghostwire was removed from it ages ago anyways.
You do understand there's a finite number of games they can put on the service, right?
Ok, I'll put Ghost Tokio into backlog.
Dead Space remake last month and Hotwheels 2 this month. Loving Essential atm
I've set my PSN subscription to lapse at renewal. Poor selection of games most months makes it not worth the price, especially since it went up.
An anime among us depending on other players and an online connection? Donald Duck right off. Cancel it now.
Don't care about death note but the other titles is good, especially ghostwire tokyo. A solid month
For those who haven’t played it-Ghostwire Tokyo is a real treat. The reviews here are always great, but I enjoyed the game much more than the 6/10 given by Push Square. Really great atmosphere in that one, and some fun, simple magic shooting.
Also, I don’t know if the DLC is included here (it was in the version I played on Game Pass), but the one in the haunted school has one of the best jump scares I have ever experienced in a video game!
@themightyant yeah some people really rave about it. Not my cup of tea. Enjoy it dude !
Ghostwire: Tokyo is listed on Epic Game Store as a free weekly giveaway starting in a few days, so if you have a PC that’s capable of playing it…there ya go…no PS+ needed!
As many probably remember, Ghostwire: Tokyo was already available at one point for PS+, but I’m glad they’re bringing it back as a permanent “keep it” game for those with a current subscription. I didn’t get to play it much before it was gone, so I’ll put more time into it when it returns.
Hot Wheels 2? Ok. Fine. I thought the first one was decent and fun in short bursts. I was hoping they’d do a better job of reintroducing us to all of the old Hot Wheels cars that they produced throughout the 1970s and 1980s and so on…and letting us play with all of ‘em in the game, but they didn’t do that. C’est la vie. I guess I can be disappointed with what we didn’t get, or I can evaluate what we did get…and on those merits, the first one was fine, though I wasn’t as high on it as Push Square’s score. Anyway, that was the first HW game, not the second one. I’ll give the second one a try!
As for these online “figure out which one of us the bad guy is” games, whatever. Never got into them. When I did try a couple of ‘em, players would just randomly kill me for no reason, so it just seemed like a waste of time. Maybe I’ll give it a try, but hard drive space is low, so I probably won’t. As it is, I don’t have enough room now to download the updated version of Walkabout Mini Golf. 🫤
Didn’t they already give ghostwire for free? I beat it already and never paid for it.
Sure I’ve already played Ghostwire and Hot Wheels on the middle plus tier already?? Absolute average I didn’t spend more than an hour on each.
A 6/10 will be seen as a highlight to PS Plus users.
I enjoyed the game, but I enjoyed it when it came out 2 years ago.
@LazyLombax It's on Xbox dawg.
Hot wheels was pretty good, so the second part will be a good blast I hopy.
Ouch. Pretty weak month
Quite forgetable.
Death note being a social deduction game is a clever choice... the presentation however... Sheesh!
Other than that a truly bargain bin month (even if the games are good, I can pick them up for practically free), and the usual free to play MP game that would be dead on arrival without a playstation push (meaning it'll be dead a few months later). Bad month.
I enjoyed Ghostwire very much, until they added that god awful rogue lite mode. It isn’t so much that they added a mode I have less than no interest in, it’s that they screwed over trophy hunters by shoehorning in additional trophies attached to that mode. Now I have to slog through that garbage just to get back to 100% completion. Note to self, either don’t buy another Tango Gameworks game or wait a year or so to make sure they haven’t butchered the trophy list.
Really liked Ghostwire: Tokyo as I'm a sucker for open world collect-a-thons although I felt the pacing was off toward the end game. Unlikely to play the other two.
Best month for me for a little while, can’t remember the last time I wanted to play all three games!
Ghostwire: Tokyo is a borefest. I don't enjoy racing. May try Death Note one but not more than couple of matches probably.
Weak month. And feels like it's happening lot more after new tiers came to existence.
I'm happy with this month. I never did end up buying Ghostwire: Tokyo even though it's been cheap for a while now, and Hot Wheels 2 seems pretty solid. I may never play the latter, but I'll take another good game and go from there. I have no interest in Death Note because I don't play anything online anymore.
I got Ghostwire for free on Epic, got bored and never completed it, but it was ok for what it was.
Death Note is crossplay enabled and sounds sick! I'm gonna try and get soke discord friends to get it and play with me.
Finally, Howheels is by no means bad.
Overall, a solid month.
Played Ghostwire while it was on Plus Extra - might finish it, now.
Wasn't thrilled with Hot Wheels 1 (seemed like you just needed the car with the best boost and that was the game), but decided to give 2 a shot and picked it up on sale a couple days ago. Oh well, it was cheap, and I got a lot of the DLC, so whatever. Should have known.
But oh...my Plus expires the day before these drop. I'll wait for any Black Friday sales before I pick it up again. If I miss this month...oh well.
@LazyLombax What made the game stand out for you? Could you share a couple things that you liked?
Damn. I recently bought HotWheels Unleashed 2, and haven’t even played it yet
Not my kind of games.
ohh... no knack 2... again.
Wasn't the first Hot Wheels Unleashed on essential as well some time back? I'm sure it's in my library, but pretty sure I wouldn't have paid for it...
I've come close to picking Ghostwire up a few times but didn't wanna add to the backlog, I guess it was gonna end up buried in it eventually!
As for the other one.... What was it called again?
@RobN I get really frustrated when that happens. I picked Little Nightmares up cheap as chips, the next month it was on Essential, held off buying LN2 until I saw it at a generous price and 3 weeks later... Feckin' PS Plus!
Watch me absolutely refuse to pick up a copy of LN3 for it never to make it, then me not being able to find a physical copy....
@LazyLombax it's not a ps5 exclusive, it's on series s/x to lol
Ghostwire Tokyo was fun. I understand a 6/10 (and appreciate Push Square’s stance on score inflation), but the combat was good and the visuals were excellent. The platinum was a bit of a grind, but no one forced me to do that. I played it when it was on Plus Extra so maybe I’ll redownload it and go for 100% now that I’m no longer bored with it.
I have no interest in racing or online games, but it seems like this is a decent month.
@AndyKazama
I agree with some people that the gameplay in Ghostwire is lacking, but the atmosphere is fantastic. It's like virtual tourism but with Yokai and evil spirits. Also, it has a fairly easy Platinum
@devildragon2k23
It was a PS5 console exclusive because of a pre-Bethesda/Zennimax acquisition agreement with Tango Gameworks.
@MikeOrator the story is pretty good too.
@get2sammyb is it possible for you all to start having gameplay trailers instead of the announcement trailers? Most announcement trailers don't match up with gameplay trailers. Just a suggestion.
@AndyKazama
Oh ya, that's right too. I was hoping for an anime adaption, that would be so fun!
Nice selection. Getting a plat for Ghostwire is pretty easy.
@KingPev
Sure, but the interesting aspects are the setting, the mythical japanese folklore.
For a culturally-inclined person, it's actually a treat.
The bonus mode is also pretty fun.
@LowDefAl yep, just nabbed it! 👍
